On the one-year anniversary of a fatal strike on Nasser Hospital in Gaza, top editors at Reuters and the Associated Press renewed demands for an Israeli investigation into the deaths of five journalists.
The joint statement honored five journalists killed in the attack, including Reuters cameraman Hussam al-Masri, visual journalist Mariam Dagga, and freelance reporter Moaz Abu Taha. The editors stressed that the reporters were working in their professional capacity at a location protected under international law.
In addition to seeking answers about the attack, Galloni and Pace called on the Israeli government to allow international journalists independent access to the Gaza Strip, noting that local reporters have been covering the conflict under extreme risk for nearly three years.
The statement also noted that Reuters continues to seek answers regarding the death of visuals journalist Issam Abdallah, who was killed by Israeli tank fire in southern Lebanon on Oct. 13, 2023.
